Currently, the only oral radiology specialty program in Canada is a three year Masters degree offered by the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry.
However, anyone that has gone through an accredited specialty program in oral & maxillofacial radiology program with a reciprocal agreement with Canada (such as the USA) can challenge the Canadian board exam administered by the Royal College of Dentists of Canada to obtain specialty status.
Each province's dental regulatory body sets its own rules regarding the operation of cone beam CT scanners. Currently, Ontario is the only province that requires a mandatory weekend course for small field CT scanning, and is also the only province to restrict the fields of view available to dentists based on their specialty.
Private organizations and universities offer continuing education in CBCT operation and interpretation. Two examples of such courses are those offered by the University of Toronto and the University of Alberta.
